While Apple products are known for their quality, things can go wrong on occasion and accidents sometimes happen that have nothing to do with the product itself.  After spending a good deal of money on a new device, it can tough to invest in something else, but it’s also important to protect the new addition to your electronic family.

AppleCare for Macs

Many people mistakenly believe that protection must be secured at the time of purchase.  This isn’t the case.  In fact, you can buy AppleCare anytime within the first year of ownership and get an extra two years of Apple warranty.  If that isn’t reason enough to love AppleCare, here are a few others:

  • AppleCare not only extends your warranty on your Mac, but it also extends your support. So, if you have a question about an issue you’re having or even just a basic question about one of the free apps that comes with the machine, simply pick up the phone and call.
  • Repairs or replacement can work in several ways with AppleCare. You can “carry-in” your product to an Apple Store or an Authorized Service Provider.  You can also get parts from Apple so that you can service the product yourself. This would only be recommended if you absolutely cannot make it into our store or another Apple store for the repair.
  • AppleCare covers parts-and-labor repairs to your computer from Apple-authorized technicians. AppleCare also gives access to some software support over the phone.
  • Buying refurbished Apple products is a great way to get quality Apple stuff at a reduced price. If you purchase it from Apple, you get the added benefit of receiving a year of complimentary AppleCare along with your purchase.   While Apple does have a great reputation for products that last, you may wish to continue to protect your investment by extending that coverage.

AppleCare is a bit different for mobile products, such as iPhones, iPads and the iPod Touch.  If you are buying an iPhone or iPad and get the AppleCare+ add-on, you get coverage for two incidents of accidental damage within a period of two years from the purchase date.  If you have to replace the device due to accidental damage within the 2-year period, it’s just $49 on an iPad, $79 on an iPhone 5S, 6, 6Plus, and $99 on a 6S or 6S Plus.  If you try to get this fixed without coverage, expect a bill in excess of $100.  If there was water involved (think toilet bowl), the costs go up significantly.  Unlike computers, with AppleCare+ you’ll need to add the warranty within 60 days, so be sure to mark your calendar if you decide not to purchase it at the same time you’re buying the device.

If you’re making an investment in an Apple product, go one step further to protect that investment with AppleCare.  The benefits far outweigh the costs for the protection you will receive.  Have questions about AppleCare or any other issues with your Apple products?  Contact us for assistance.
