Not sure what’s going on out there but I’ve had three requests for this in two weeks. Reasons to remove them? Old passwords being saved for sites that you’ve reset. Browser slowness, clearing cache fixed beach balls in Safari for me. Other odd website behavior that seems to be browser specific can sometimes be fixed by purging these two items.

Here’s how to remove Cache and Cookies from Safari (this is based on Safari 5.0.3):

As like most things made by Apple they have made it easy. Under the “Safari” drop down menu you will see “Reset Safari”. Please note that if you are only looking to clear your cache that option is available from the same drop down menu right under the reset option.

Go ahead and click Reset Safari and you will get a pop up window with lots of options. You can clear as much as you want, I would however suggest not clicking anything that you don’t understand what it might do. You wouldn’t want to accidentally clear out your bookmarks.

See how easy that was?

Here’s how to remove Cache and Cookies from Firefox (this is based on Firefox 3.6.13):

Go up to the Firefox drop down menu and select preferences (command + comma works for prefs in most apps btw). You’ll want to click on “Privacy” and then on “Show Cookies”.

It will pop up a list of cookies and you can either choose which ones you need to delete or remove all.

Now onto Cache, they really hide it from you in Firefox. You need to go to the “Advanced” pane and select the “Network” tab. Hit the “Clear Now” button and you are done.
