As much as I would like to try every case available for my new iPhone it starts to add up after awhile. Not to mention that it gets a bit disappointing. One of the worst things about a new iPhone redesign is it means you have to wait awhile for quality cases to be made as the first ones out weren’t actually tested on the real device. This can mean ill fitting cases, openings not quite right, looseness and other issues. After buying my second case I thought I would throw it out to Twitter to see what they like and get their pros and cons for the cases they tried. If you’ve tried a case that’s not listed here go ahead and email macfusiongirl@mac-fusion.com your Mini Review and I’ll add it to this post.

First we start out with Jeremy (who might possibly have the cutest Twitter avatar ever)::

Apple’s decision to change the shape and size left case selections VERY slim. AT&T delivered my iPhone 4 to my door, a day early, and I went out to find a case that I could be happy with for the time being. Neither my local BestBuy nor the AT&T store were selling anything a day early and the local Apple store had no iPhone 4 cases or bumpers at the time. I spent the next few days, case-less. It didn’t feel safe. After a few weeks, more and more case manufactures were finally getting iPhone 4 cases out to market. I found the Griffin Reveal. It looked to offer the protection I wanted for my phone.

At first, I really liked the Griffin Reveal. It fit snug around the edge of the phone and the clear back didn’t leave me concerned that photos taken with the case on would have an oddly colored hue to them. After a week or so, the edge of the case started to lose some of the firm grip I had initially liked so much about the case. The phone never fell out of the case or even remotely close to doing so, but as the edges started to become more and more loose, I worried about dust and debris getting between the case and the phone. Overall I like the case and it left me feeling like my phone was safer than being case-less, but as the sides started to loosen up, it just didn’t feel as nice nor did it look as nice.

Just as the Griffin was starting to lose it’s “grip” on my phone the Incase Snap Clear showed up.

My fiancée and I both picked the Incase Snap for our free cases from Apple. She picked the “Clear” and I picked the “Smoke”. The Clear showed up first ( by about a week ), and I removed the Reveal and replaced it with the Snap. I was quickly disappointed. The Incase Snap Clear just felt poorly put together. The sides would make a creaking noise as you griped the phone, and it just never felt solid. The case was also VERY smooth, always leaving me to double check that I had a good grip on my phone before doing anything with it. After being so ridiculously happy with the Slider I had used on my 3GS for a year, I was very let down by what Incase had served up for the Snap, and was not looking forward to the Incase Slider Smoke. Had I paid the retail price of $34.95 for this I’d have taken it back in a heartbeat.

The Incase Snap Smoke showed up about a week after the Clear version and it really seems like it is manufactured by a completely different company.

It has a nice matte finish so the case has some grip to it. The little bit of grip isn’t so much that it interferes with putting it or taking it out of a pocket, but just enough to where it doesn’t feel like a wet bar of soap. All the downfalls that the Incase Snap Clear had, the Smoke is lacking. I don’t know why a simple color difference.

Overall Rankings:
Incase:
- Snap Clear: 2 Stars – maybe I got a “bad” one, maybe all the Incase Snap Clears are just not as well made as the Smoke.
- Snap Smoke: 4 Stars
Griffin:
- Reveal: 3.5 Stars – had the sides not started to loosen up, it would have been 4 stars

I still plan on picking up an Incase Slider for the iPhone 4. I loved my 3GS version, I just hope the iPhone 4 version is as solidly built. After the quality of the Snap Clear, I’m somewhat hesitant, but the Smoke reassured me somewhat.

Next we have Matt::

iSkin Solo for iPhone 4.

The Good:
- Cut outs are perfectly positioned for ports, camera & what not
- Feels good in your hand and not bulky
- Lifetime warranty from iSkin.
- Feels like it would be ok in a drop, but no way in hell am I going to test that out. :)
- Looks like you can dock it to the iPhone 4 dock without removing the case (according to the gallery on their website).
- In my opinion the iPhone still looks very sexy in this case.

The Bad:
- A bit hard to put on, make sure you start from the bottom then go around the sides to the top.
- May be considered a bit pricey at $30 + shipping from iSkin.com to similar styled cases, but fits very well and is worth it IMO!
- Currently a limited amount of colors but more are to come.

Next up we have Peggy::

I have a Rocketfish iPhone 4 case and i’m pretty happy with it. I didn’t want to wait for the free case from Apple, so I went to Best Buy and this was the best looking case they had at the time, IMO. It’s a gel case but it’s thin, so not bulky. It’s not sticky, so it doesn’t pull mu hair out while holding it to my ear. Its sticky enough that I don’t drop it. Only negative it you have to press hard to turn the phone off.

Thanks for all of your help! If you didn’t see your case listed drop me an email at macfusiongirl@mac-fusion.com with your mini review and I’ll add it to the post!

    I’ve not found any bumper cases which allow me to leave my case on. I have found a dock adapter which allows me to leave my case on – works with both 3g/s and 4. All of the current adapters requires the user to remove their phones case before docking it in a device (radio, alarm, charger, etc). I can finally dock my iPhone with its case in my alarm!!!!!
