I just decided that I’m going to try and do all of my blog posts pics and videos only using Apple tools. This means using my iPhone 4, iMovie, Keynote and of course my beloved MacBook Pro. One of the things I needed first was a way that I could get my iPhone onto a tripod. I tweeted:

I soon heard from @apixelpro who recommended the Mosy Mount. After going to the website and looking at it all I was a tiny bit skeptical as it was a MobileMe site and only $19.95. I probably shouldn’t be too harsh on the MobileMe site as after all, wasn’t I trying to push the same thing? I clicked order and paid via paypal. Received an email Monday morning that it had shipped and it even included a picture of the USPS delivery confirmation receipt. Two days later this is what I received:

As you can see the packaging was great. Presentation was taken into account and I appreciate that! Inside I received a clear case with a mount already attached, a second mount with adhesive on it that can be attached to most anything, a small pocket sized tripod and instructions.

One of the things I was most curious about when I purchased it was the mini tripod. At the $19.95 price point I wasn’t sure how they could afford to include what appeared to be a metal tripod. It’s actually not metal (the site didn’t say it was btw) but a lightweight plastic that seems to be sturdy enough. It’s very low profile and would be good for table top photography of smaller items. You could also use it for everyday things like displaying your iPhone or watching a movie on it. If I spent all day at a desk I might use it for a home for my iPhone.

I was excited to try it on my large professional sized tripod but found an issue. It doesn’t seem to matter how I mount it horizontally I can only point down at the slightest angle before seeing part of my tripod. Now this very well could have something to do with my model of tripod. I don’t feel like I can knock Mosy on any level for this… and since they sent me a second mount I plan to buy a cheap little iPhone 4 case off of ebay and move the mount over so I can get it to work with this tripod.

I did the calculations and I’ll actually have to hang it off the edge a bit but I’m happy to do so.

For $19.95 I feel like I got more than I was expecting and I look forward to using this as part of my “Everything Mac” setup. Also, since the little tripod is so lightweight I can carry it on me at all times which isn’t something I was planing on. You never know when there will be a good opportunity to catch something interesting that we can share with you all :-)
