How to add clickable social media icons to your Apple Mail.app signature! Where to find a great set of social media icons. Be sure to catch my major goof in the middle and stick around for the disclaimers at the end.

    Great tutorial!

I especially enjoyed the real-time test showing the copy/paste error with the embedded hard returns. You not only demonstrated a typical error when using copy and paste but made the video that much more enjoyable because of your humor and FAIL screen. ;-)

Another way to do this can be found at the following URL:

    Custome CSS Signatures in Mail

Melvin’s tutorial is a little bit more technical but works well. However, for a quick and effective way to use it, I’d say your tutorial is the best way to go.

    Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the kind words. I checked out the link and I must say it’s very nice. Might have to investigate. I’ve wanted to learn CSS but just never seem to have the time. Most of what I am covering is stuff that my every day clients would use. Kevin of mac-fusion plans to start doing some more high end videos but still keep them user friendly. :-)

You’re dead on when you said, “Most of what I am covering is stuff that my every day clients would use.”

Your approach was simple and easy to understand.

    Thanks again!

Being a blogger myself this is an amazing feature! Super easy tutorial, thanks!

Hi I just tried this with my mail and when going to Edit/Link/Add… nothing would happen, the small window to actually add the copied link would not come up.

Is there something I am doing wrong.

  • Marilyn

This only works if you are using Apple’s newest operating Snow Leopard. Are you trying this under 10.6?

When I drag the icon from the folder to email signature, it tells me I am missing a plugin??? Can you help?

  • Marilyn

I haven’t heard of this error. Are you using Snow Leopard? Have you restarted your machine lately? Do you haven any third party plugins installed for Mail?

    Very good article

  • damian viera

I am also getting a plugin request when I drag the icon into my signature box.
Where can I find this plugin I am running 10.6.5

  • Noushi

when I click command K instead of adding link it says are you sure you want to delete all your deleted messgaes. Also, when i click on my icon and do it under edid and add link it just adds the link into the mail and takes away the image. Do you know what I can do?

  • Coryriv

I get the same issue. Did you get a solution?

  • http://mac-fusion.com Marilyn Halpin

The only solution is to be on Snow Leopard unfortunately. This doesn’t work in previous versions of Mail.app.

when adding the link to the icon, it is replacing the icon with the hyperlink. suggestions?

  • Daniel

Did not work for me.  I use Lion.  It will not link my sites (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc…).  After adding the link, I send an email to myself.  When I click on my social media icons.  It just takes me to preview of the icon.  Can anyone help me?  Frustrating…

  • http://mac-fusion.com Marilyn Halpin

I’m on Lion as well and just created a new signature- dragged the image into the signature pane, highlighted the icon, did “command+k” on my highlighted icon and then inputted my http://mac-fusion.com/blog I then sent an email to a different email account with that newly created signature  and was able to click my icon and it launched Safari and went to the URL I specified. Is it possible you are missing a step? I’m more than happy to help if I have all the information :)

  • Daniel

Hey! Thanks for responding.  Still did not work.  Tried everything you said.  When I create a completely blank email (with no signature), drop the images into the message, and add the links…it works.  However, when I do the same thing in the signature feature…it does not work.  There are no links on the icons.  When you click the icons in the signature, it just shows you the image in preview (like an attachment).

What more info can I supply you with for help in this matter?

  • http://mac-fusion.com Marilyn Halpin

Ohhh, I may have figured it out… you can’t test the signature on an email that hasn’t been sent yet. You can however save it as a draft and then test your links. Let me know.

  • http://mac-fusion.com Marilyn Halpin

Actually sorry, just re-read all of our thread. I really don’t know what the problem is. I can reliably reproduce this on multiple Macs with both 10.6.8 and 10.7.2. I guess it could be a Mail problem but that seems unlikely. If you really wanted to test if it is a mail problem or if you are missing a step you could always set up a second user on your Mac.

  • Aja

    same here.

  • Meg

Can you add more than one icon ie.  Twitter and Facebook and attach two separate links?  Right now it is allowing me one link for both.  One or the other.

  • http://mac-fusion.com Marilyn Halpin

Yes you can, you need to have individual image files for each social network and then highlight them individually to add their corresponding links. I believe in the video I show 3-5 individual links.
